VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES

In order to make your stay a pleasant and safe experience for the children and for you, please observe the following:

  • Most importantly love our children.
  • Respect the needs of the children and follow instructions from the staff.
  • Do not be aggressive or swear at the children.
  • Under no circumstances take children or yourselves swimming in the rivers.
  • If you see that someone is bleeding, take the child to a caregiver or to the clinic. The staff is trained how to take care of an injury.
  • If you feel at all unwell, please seek advice from the onsite nurse and stay away from the children.
  • Children are not allowed near the Volunteer Center at any time. They are well aware of this rule.
  • Volunteers are not allowed in the children’s rooms or houses at any time unless accompanied by a staff member.
  • Volunteers are not allowed near the children’s clusters after 6:30 pm.
  • Wash your hands before eating.
  • Drink lots of water to keep hydrated.
  • Use sunscreen. The sun is very fierce.
  • Do not wear revealing clothing. Cambodia is a modest country when it comes to dress and we ask volunteers to dress accordingly.
  • Alcohol and/or recreational drugs are not allowed onsite. This is a rule that applies to all Khmer staff as well. Anyone who violates this rule will be escorted from the Village immediately.
  • Smoking is allowed around the Volunteer Center only and cannot be done in front of the children. Please respect your non-smoking colleagues.
  • Do not put toilet paper down the toilet. Use the bins provided.
  • Do not leave food or drink uncovered as this attracts insects and rats.
  • Please clean up after yourself.
  • Do not leave valuables on display.
  • Make sure your house is padlocked at night, and do not wander outside after 8.30 pm.
  • Inform someone when you leave the Village.
  • Enjoy yourself.
